The City of New Orleans’ Department of Public Works, in conjunction with the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans, is now 74 percent complete with road construction and infrastructure improvement projects on Cherokee Street between Benjamin and Pearl streets. The project was designed by Professional Engineering Consultants Corporation and is being built by Fleming Construction Company, LLC.
Construction crews are installing manholes and removing and replacing sidewalks in poor condition on both sides of the project limits. This project is now scheduled to be completed by Mardi Gras 2019.
The scope of work includes:
- Replacing existing water lines and installing new sub-drainage lines;
- Repairing damaged sewer lines;
- Repaving portions of the roadway in asphalt;
- Installing rain gardens and a pervious (allows water to move through) parking lane to reduce subsidence and detain storm water;
- Replacing damaged sidewalks and driveway aprons; and
- Installing Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps at intersections.
The City hosted a pre-construction community meeting to discuss what residents can expect during construction. View a copy of the meeting presentation here. Learn more at RoadWork.nola.gov or call 504.658.ROAD (7623). To be added to the project contact list send an e-mail to RoadWork@nola.gov.
