The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO), in partnership with contractor Roubion, has reached an important milestone in the ongoing infrastructure improvements along St. Peter Street.
On the west (even-numbered) side of St. Peter, crews have completed roughly half of the new drain line and successfully installed two new manholes at the intersection of St. Peter and Royal. In addition, two new temporary water lines have passed all safety and bacteria testing and are ready to be tied into nearby residences and businesses. This connection process will continue into early next week, with minimal disruption to water service expected during this time.
The next phase will shift to the east (odd-numbered) side of St. Peter, where crews will continue drain line work and begin installing a new 24-inch water main.
We understand concerns regarding the fencing and intersection closures along St. Peter and Royal. Unfortunately, the construction footprint cannot be reduced without compromising public and worker safety. Protecting pedestrians, workers, and nearby properties remains our highest priority. As a reminder, businesses are encouraged to use signage to inform customers that they remain open during construction. Each business may display up to two signs, per guidelines set by the Vieux Carré Commission and the Department of Safety & Permits. Please keep signage size appropriate so we can continue offering this flexibility.
Meanwhile, Delta Utilities continues work in the 900 and 1000 blocks of Decatur Street. This requires intermittent street closures from Ursulines Avenue to Dumaine Street to accommodate pipe installation. A dedicated police detail is on-site daily to help manage traffic.

Thank you for your patience as we work together to deliver these critical infrastructure improvements that will support the French Quarter community for years to come.
