🚧 French Quarter Construction Update – August 28, 2025
The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) shared an update on ongoing infrastructure work:
Fire Hydrant Valve Removal: A faulty hydrant valve was removed to maintain fire service and support new drain line installation on St. Peter Street. Work on the west side (Tableau side) is expected to finish next week, weather permitting.
Utility Coordination: SWBNO and Entergy are addressing conflicts with an older gas manhole and electrical lines at St. Peter & Royal.
Decatur Street Progress: Work continues on the 900 and 1000 blocks of Decatur. Both blocks are on schedule for early October completion, after which SWBNO crews will begin replacing water, sewer, and drain lines.
Construction fencing, lighting, and ongoing updates will remain in place to ensure safety and communication. Contractors will also be working through the holiday weekend to keep the project on track.

🚧 Project Update: St. Peter & Decatur Streets 🚧
Crews have completed half of the new drain line on St. Peter (west side) and installed 2 new manholes at St. Peter & Royal.
Temporary water lines passed safety testing; tie-ins will be completed early next week with minimal service disruption.
Next phase: east side of St. Peter → new drain line + installation of a 24” water main.
Fencing remains in place for public safety.
Businesses may display up to two signs to let customers know they’re open.
On Decatur Street, work continues between Ursulines & Dumaine with intermittent closures. Police detail on-site daily.

The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works’ contractor, Roubion Construction, LLC, in conjunction with the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans, is performing an emergency waterline repair tie-in at 6400 Louisville Street, between Bragg Street and Lane Street. A waterline joint separated causing a large leak. Roubion will continue to work and install a temporary 22" water line tie-in this evening in order to restore water to affected homes and businesses.

The $11.7M Bayou St. John, Fairgrounds, Seventh Ward Group A project is continuing with excavation and sewer line repairs and replacement operations throughout the project area. Crews are currently working in the 1500 block of North Derbigny Street, 1500 block of North Rocheblave Street, and the 2100 block of North Roman streets.
Beverly Construction began work on the $2.1M Bayou St John, Fairgrounds, Seventh Ward Group D infrastructure improvement project this summer. Crews are currently working on drain and sewer work on Chalfant Place and Wilshire Place. Weekend and after-hours work has been approved in order for the contractor to make up for time lost to inclement weather. The extended hours allow for the contractor to complete critical work in timely manner, minimizing the amount of time construction impacts residents.
Hard Rock Construction Co., LLC crews are preparing for environmental testing of newly installed waterlines while continueing sewer and drainage work on the $24.4M Mid-City Group B project. Pending successful testing, waterline tie-ins will begin in late October in some areas of the projects. Sewer and drain work continues on 3900 Toulouse and 4500 Iberville.
Wallace C. Drennan, Inc. crews have completed all SSERP work on this project. All underground utility operations on Versailles Boulevard have been completed and roadway construction is currently in progress. Currently, crews are performing various construction activities including roadway reconstruction on Neron Place and paving on Sycamore Street, Short Street, and Walmsley Avenue. Additionally, crews are performing drainage line improvements work on State Street Drive from Fontainebleau Drive to Walmsley Avenue. Work on State Street Drive will continue in segments through April 2022, weather permitting.
Hard Rock Construction, LLC. crews are currently installing the new roadway on the 5300 and 5500 blocks of South Rocheblave. Residents will experience new, safer and smoother roads and sidewalks.

The City of New Orleans’ Department of Public Works continues development and implementation of the FEMA-funded Joint Infrastructure Recovery Roads program.
The $7.3M Treme-Lafitte Group A project, which began construction in March 2020, is anticipated to complete work in Fall 2021. Crews have completed the majority of sidewalks and driveways along St. Phillip Street and adjacent streets on the northern and eastern sides of Louis Armstrong Park. Asphalt re-paving is completing along St. Ann Street, Dumaine Street and Treme Street, weather permitting. ADA-approved sidewalk infrastructure repair and installation will continue along Bayou Road and throughout the project site.

The City of New Orleans and the Department of Public Works, will soon begin lane restriping as part of the Wright Road (Chef Menteur Blvd—Dwyer Rd) Full Reconstruction project. The lane restriping for this project is being implemented as part of the City of New Orleans’ Complete Streets program, which will include a vehicular lane reduction and parking lane shift on Wright Rd between Chef Menteur Blvd and Dwyer Rd to provide bike lanes in both directions of travel.
Fleming Construction Company is currently staging equipment and surveying with MSMM Engineering in preparation for the $7.2M full-depth reconstruction project. Excavation and utility work will encompass Andry, Egania, Miro, Tonti and Choctaw streets as part of the Lower Ninth Ward Northwest Group D reconstruction. Streets, curb, sidewalks, disability ramps and utilities will be fixed throughout the site and finally completed in summer 2022.
Waterline replacements and tie-ins are continuing on the $10.3M Wright Road (Chef Menteur Boulevard – Dwyer Road) Full Reconstruction project that began in November 2020. Work on the northbound lane of Wright Road is being finalized with sidewalk and driveway operations completing this month. The southbound lane of Wright Road is limited to resident access only as crews continue waterline replacement installation. Weekend work across this project has been frequent throughout summer and fall to ensure that the scheduled timeline for completion is maintained despite severe weather events.
